25th General Hospital Exhibit
Date: Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 - Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010
Location: Stanley J. Lucas, MD, Board Room; Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions.

During the summer of 1941, the U.S. Army invited UC to organize the 25th General Hospital to serve as a major medical facility in the European war theater. More than 600 physicians, surgeons, nurses and enlisted men served the 25th with distinction in England, France and Belgium until the end of the war.

The Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions, located near the MSBs Kresge Circle entrance, now houses most of the 25ths historical documents, photographs and artifacts.

On Friday, Nov. 12, the center will open a new exhibit about the 25th General Hospital in its Stanley J. Lucas, MD, Board Room. The exhibit is the first of five projects the Winkler Center has scheduled in the coming nine months to celebrate the 25th.

One project will record oral histories of surviving veterans of the 25th. If you are a 25th veteran or know one, please contact the Winkler Center at (513) 558-5120 or

These projects are supported by a gift from Col. J.N. Pritzker, Illinois Army National Guard (Ret.), president & CEO, Tawani Enterprises, Inc., founder and chair, Pritzker Military Library, and founder and president, Tawani Foundation.
