Yusuf Hannun, PhD, director of the Stony Brook University Cancer Center, will give a presentation as part of the UC College of Medicine Department of Cancer Biology's 2013 Winter Seminar Series.
The seminar is open to all interested faculty and staff, and takes place from noon to 1 p.m. March 28 in the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies.
Hannun conducts research involving lipid mediators of cancer cell signaling, primarily involving investigation of physiological and pathological roles played by a class of lipids known as the sphingolids. Hannun and colleagues discovered the signaling functions of these lipids and the vital roles they play in the cancer disease process, and cancer therapy, as well as in other areas of biomedicine such as neurobiology, inflammation and metabolism.
The UC Department of Cancer Biology is part of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute, one of four UC College of Medicine and UC Health institutes. Together UC, UC Health and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Cancer form the Cincinnati Cancer Center.
