'Ready, Set, Go!' Series Workshop 8
Date: Thursday, April 9, 2015
Time: 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Description:

The College of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Development, Office of Research, and UC LEAF are pleased to present the eighth lecture in the 2014-15 "Ready, Set, Go!" series.

Chip Montrose, PhD, vice provost and dean of the Graduate School, will facilitate this session on Mentoring and Career Guidance.

Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize why you need a mentor and what you can except from them
  • Develop a plan of how to find mentors and interact with them
  • Validate your career goals and definition of success. Take a self-assessment and work with the results (what is more important to your success; playing to your strengths or working on your weaknesses?)
  • Plan a career guidance network that is both local and national
  • Learn how to elicit frank discussions and opinions and cope with negative outcomes
Ready, Set, Go! is a nine-course series of programs, facilitated by an interdisciplinary team of research faculty, and is designed to provide new faculty members with the competence and skills to set up and maintain a successful research laboratory or clinical research program.
