CARE/Crawley Building Grand Opening
Date: Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008
Time: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Description:

The Center for Academic Research Excellence (CARE)/ Crawley Building, under construction for the past four years at Albert Sabin Way and Eden Avenue, is ready for its close-up.

The CARE/Crawley Building will have its grand opening Sept. 10, celebrating the completion of a signature architectural structure on the Academic Health Center campus.

Designed by UC alumnus Erik Sueberkrop of Studios Architecture, the CARE/Crawley Building will house some of the most technically advanced laboratory research and teaching space in the nation. It is connected to the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) by a glass atrium and is part of a comprehensive five-phase renovation of the MSB.

The building will add 240,000 gross square feet to UCís education and research complex and is the site of the Edith J. Crawley Vision Science Research Laboratory. Crawley, who died in 2003, gave about $12 million to UC to further geriatric vision care research.

The building will also house the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library. It is named for Donald Harrison, MD, former senior vice president and provost for health affairs at UC, whose $1 million gift supported the new libraryís renovation.
