Health Policy Forum: Pay for Performance Initiatives
Date: Monday, Sept. 21, 2009
Time: Noon - 1 p.m.
Location: Fourth floor of the Stetson Building at the corner of Martin Luther King and Highland, across from University Hospital.

Description:

As pay for performance models proliferate in both the private and public sectors, key issues need to be addressed regarding their effectiveness and optimal design. Do pay for performance strategies work? What are the unintended consequences, if any? How should programs be designed to acceleration innovation and the adoption of best practices? This Health Policy Forum will review the extant research on pay for performance, and assess the overall effectiveness of these approaches at improving health and healthcare.

Jon B. Christianson, PhD, professor and James A. Hamilton Chair in Health Policy and Management at the University of Minnesota, will be speaking. Christianson is an economist with extensive research and teaching experience in the financing and delivery of medical care. He has published widely in the areas of health insurance and managed care, employer health care purchasing, rural health care, mental health care, public reporting, pay-for-performance, and care process improvement. He received a PhD degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Christianson serves on a number of different editorial boards and scientific advisory panels. He chaired the 2007 AcademyHealth research meetings.
