Hoxworth Blood Center is a division of the UC Academic Health Center and is the only blood center for the greater Cincinnati area.
Serving a 17-county area in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Hoxworth collects, tests, processes and distributes blood and blood components to 31 hospitals and medical centers.
Hoxworth needs to collect blood from 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors each day meet the needs of Tristate patients.
Hoxworth's purpose is to enhance the well-being of patients by assuring a reliable and economical supply of the safest possible blood. Hoxworth is licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is accredited by multiple agencies including the AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks), the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) and the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). Hoxworth is also a member of America's Blood Centers and Blood Centers of America.
Hoxworth Blood Center is an internationally recognized leader in transfusion medicine. The center is made up of 26 departments and includes more than 300 volunteers committed to serving the community.
In addition to collecting, manufacturing and providing blood and blood products to Tristate area hospitals, the blood center provides clinical, research and educational services.

The research division of Hoxworth Blood Center is an industry leader in the coordination of research projects developed for the advancement of transfusion medicine and the study of clinical applications of transfusion medicine-related products.
Research is being conducted to help develop new methods to study basic biology and the regulation of adult stem cell proliferation and differentiation.
