Winter Weather Impacts Blood Supply; Hoxworth in Need of Donations

CINCINNATI—The winter storm that has blanketed much of the Tristate has negatively impacted the local blood supply, and Hoxworth Blood Center officials anticipate losing half of the projected collections due to cancellations and delays brought about by the weather.

Hoxworth urges eligible blood donors to donate at a neighborhood donor center today and Friday. All donors will receive a limited edition 2010 winter T-shirt.

Appointments are encouraged but not required; walk-in donors are always welcome.

How to Donate:
Donating blood is safe and easy. Donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health. Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.
