With nametags to help colleagues make connections and tables of food to mark the occasion, the UC College of Medicine celebrated new faculty during a reception on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
The celebration welcomed 138 new faculty members from 20 different clinical and basic science departments in the college.
This was the first time for this event.
Chairs from the departments welcoming new faculty were given the opportunity to introduce each new member at the lectern and give a little bit of background about them.
Thomas Boat, MD, dean of the College of Medicine and a professor of pediatrics, said that an event such as this is important in order to help faculty members make connections for later collaborations in teaching, research and clinical care.
"If we donít have new people, from new places, with new ideas and fresh energy, itís going to be difficult to move ahead,Ē he said during his opening remarks to the group. "This is an initial step connecting our faculty to one another.Ē
