A prescription drug take-back event is being sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct., 29, at locations across the country, with numerous sites at retail pharmacies and government offices designated throughout Greater Cincinnati.
"The reasons to dispose of no longer needed medications properly are three-fold: to keep pharmaceuticals out of our water supply, to prevent accidental poisonings in children and to prevent misuse and abuse of prescription medications,” says Marianne Ivey, PharmD, an associate professor in the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy.
Ivey has been actively involved with promoting the proper disposal of prescription medications through organizations such as the EPA, the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), Leadership Cincinnati and others.
Persons interested in disposing of old medicines can find the most convenient DEA designated site by visiting the DEA website and entering their zip code.
