On Saturday, March 3, as part of a national effort to get patients active and moving, Shivani Jindal, MD, a UC internal medicine resident, led an event called "Walk With a Doc,” in which 12 patients from her clinic, located in the Hoxworth Building, as well as other physicians and staff, walked the tunnels of UC Health University Hospital.
The 20-minute exercise stroll was followed by a 15-minute talk about healthy food portions, given by Jindal herself in the University Hospital surgical amphitheatre.
She says that UC joined the national organization "Just Walk,” first started in Columbus, and that this was UC's first time hosting such an event, with hopes to boost fitness for patients and promote healthy habits. Jindal adds that she hopes to continue these planned walks every month for patients.
"We’re trying to lead by example,” she says. "This event was quite a success and all participants seemed to have a great time. This kind of event is a way to show that in order to be healthy, a person doesn’t have to be involved in strenuous activity. We hope to continue our walks in the future and will ask for feedback from patients to find out what information they'd like to learn."
