Cincinnati—The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine was recently awarded a five-year $4.96 million program project grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the molecular mechanisms of dietary fat and cholesterol absorption.

According to principal investigator David Y. Hui, PhD, professor and vice chairman for research in the UC Department of Pathology, "This is a multi-disciplinary research program that focuses on how the interaction between dietary fat and genetic factors influence blood lipid/cholesterol levels and the risk of premature coronary heart disease." Researchers include four faculty members in the UC Department of Pathology and two faculty investigators at the Children's Hospital Research Foundation
