UC Professor Appointed to NIH Committee

CincinnatióJudith C. Rhodes, PhD, associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine, was recently invited to serve as a member of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Bacteriology and Mycology Study Section 2, Center for Scientific Review, for the term beginning immediately and ending June 30, 2002. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements, and honors. Service on a study section requires mature judgement and objectivity as well as the ability to work effectively in a group. Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science. Rhodes is an expert on mycology, which is the study of fungi. Her scientific stature and contributions will help assure the quality of the NIH peer review process for medical and allied research in this country.
