CINCINNATI—Latino students from the University of Cincinnati’s (UC) College of Medicine will host the Latino Medical Student Association’s (LSMA) Midwest House of Delegates Annual Leadership Conference Aug. 24–26, 2012.
"This is an exciting opportunity for the UC chapter as it is only our second year in existence and we are already hosting such an important event,” said second-year medical student Alex Cortez, who co-directs UC’s LSMA chapter.
Cortez says he expects 40 medical students from across the Midwest to attend the conference, which includes a welcome reception, a half day of lectures by local physician leaders and health care administrators and an afternoon of Cincinnati tourist excursions.
The LSMA Midwest consists of dedicated medical students from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin and strives to develop effective Latino(a) physician leaders in health care to become effective patient advocates and physician leaders in the government, private sector and community.
