Cincinnati—Ralph A. Giannella, MD, Mark Brown Professor of Medicine
and director of the Division Digestive Diseases in the College of
Medicine, is the new president of the American Gastroenterological
Association (AGA). The AGA consists of 10,000 member
gastroenterologists and gastrointestinal scientists and is the largest
such organization in the US.
Last month, Giannella testified
before the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and
Human Services on behalf of the AGA. In his testimony, he discussed the
problem of foodborne illnesses and infections and encouraged an
increase in NIH research funding for this problem as well as cancers of
the gastrointestinal system.
