CINCINNATI—Six University of Cincinnati (UC) faculty members have coauthored a new handbook for physicians titled “Clinician’s Guide to Antiepileptic Drug Use.”
According to Michael Privitera, MD, the handbook and PDA reference, published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, is the first reference of its kind for the different specialties that use antiepileptic medications for seizure control and non-seizure indications like pain, headache and psychiatric disorders.
Designed as a quick point-of-care reference, it provides guidelines on use of antiepileptic drugs for treatment of seizures, psychiatric disorders, pain and headache.
The other UC authors are Jennifer Cavitt, MD, David Ficker, MD, and Jerzy Szaflarski, MD, PhD, all from the department of neurology and the Neuroscience Institute, Marcia Kaplan, MD, psychiatry, and visiting faculty member Timothy Welty, PharmD.
