Gleich Receives Grant

Cincinnati—The American Head and Neck Society and the American Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery have recently announced that Lyon Gleich, MD, associate professor of otolaryngology—head and neck surgery at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Medical Center is the recipient of a two-year, $70,000 grant for his research on "Gene Therapy in Head and Neck Cancer." The grant is jointly given by the two societies. Gleich and his UC researchers led the initial investigations for gene therapy for head and neck cancer which have resulted in ongoing multicenter national trials. Head and neck cancer describes any of several localized tumors located in the mouth, throat, and voice box. Traditional treatment of advanced head and neck cancer includes surgery and/or radiation therapy. Gene therapy aims to inject new molecular materials into these tumors to improve cure rates with less side effects.

For more information about gene therapy for head and neck cancer, email Gleich at lyon.gleich@uc.edu or call (513) 558-5411 or 584-4198.
