UC, Medical Students to Honor Body Donors at Ceremony Oct. 5
The annual memorial service for people who have donated their bodies to medical science will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in Kresge Auditorium on UCís medical campus.
The 2013 service will honor the families of more than 160 donors, whose dates of death range from 2007 to 2011. Their cremated remains have recently been interred at a plot in Spring Grove Cemetery.
The ceremony includes a performance by the College of Medicine student chorus and comments from emeriti faculty and current medical students.
Following the service at UC, participants will be invited to drive to the burial plot at Spring Grove Cemetery, which is marked with a monument inscribed with the words, "Through Their Thoughtfulness Knowledge Grows.Ē
UCís body donation programówhich received 423 donations last year and has over 12,250 pre-registered donors on fileóis one of the largest single-institution programs of its kind in the United States.
The College of Medicine holds a memorial service each year to publicly honor donors, their families and friends.
