Coulson-Thomas Wins Young Investigator Award

Vivien Coulson-Thomas, PhD, post-doctoral fellow in the department of ophthalmology, received the Journal of Biological Chemistry/ Herbert Tabor Young Investigator Award at the 8th International Proteoglycan Conference, held Aug. 2529, in Frankfurt, Germany. 

Coulson-Thomas works with Winston Kao, PhD, professor of ophthalmology, where she studies the use of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UMSC) for treating corneal disease.

She received the award for their recent work, "Transplantation of UMSC cures the corneal defects of mucopolysaccharidosis VII mice.

The award recognizes the innovators and achievers in young researchers who exemplify the values of creativity and scientific excellence.
