Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati will be celebrating 75 Years of Saving Lives with a midday event Wednesday, Dec. 11, on Fountain Square.  Hoxworth is inviting all donors, recipients and friends to join the celebration.

Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a formal event at noon, in which awards will be presented to the University of Cincinnati (President Santa Ono, PhD, accepting), the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals and Liz Bonis of WKRC-TV, Channel 12.  Complimentary cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be provided.

The event will kick off a year of celebration and education as Hoxworth looks back on its rich 75-year history while continuing to lead advancement in transfusion medicine and saving lives.

Hoxworth Blood Center was founded in December 1938 by Paul Hoxworth, MD, and serves 30 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals.
