CINCINNATI—A record 800 cancer survivors from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana embark Sunday, June 4, from the Newport Landing, Ky., for their annual Ohio River cruise.
Boarding begins at noon. Cincinnati mayor Mark Mallory will declare June 4 National Survivors Day and the boat will leave the dock at 1 p.m., returning before 4 p.m.
The ride on BB Riverboats’ "Belle of Cincinnati” will include two hours of entertainment—plus food, free photos of every guest and prizes.
The event underscores that with early detection and treatment, cancer is survivable, says planning cochair Patricia Schoenung, of Jewish Hospital.
This year’s cruise is sold out. Online registration for next year and more information are available at www.cancersurvivorsday.org.
Major sponsors are UC Cancer Center, University Hospital, and the Jewish Hospital. Other support comes from Tri-Health, Mercy Anderson, the American Cancer Society, Cancer Family Care, Fort Hamilton Hospital, Dearborn County Hospital, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
