Karl Golnik, MD, interim chair of the UC Department of Ophthalmology, and Mary Rich, administrative program director in the UC Department of Internal Medicine, are recipients of 2015 awards from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Golnik received the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award, while Rich is recipient of the Program Coordinator Award. Both awardees will be honored at a luncheon during the 2015 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in San Diego.
The Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award is awarded to 10 program directors who find innovative ways to teach residents and to provide quality health care while remaining connected to the initial impulse to care for others in this environment. Parker J. Palmer is the author of the book "The Courage to Teach.”
The GME Program Coordinator Excellence Award is presented to up to five program coordinators in recognition of their in-depth understanding of the accreditation process, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and projects to improve residency programs.
