UC Professor Accepts Membership on NIH Center for Scientific Review
Cincinnati--James A. Fagin, MD, professor and director of the
University of Cincinnati (UC) Department of Endocrinology, has accepted
an invitation to serve as a member of the Endocrinology Study Section
of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific
Review. Fagin began his term on July 1, 1998, and will serve in the
study section until June 30, 2002.
Fagin was chosen by members already serving on the Endocrinology Study
Section who review research accomplishments, journal publications,
honors received, objectivity levels, and teamwork capabilities.
"Usually those who've already received consistent funding from the NIH
will be considered," Fagin says. "You are asked to become a regular
member after the members review your work and your reputation."
Membership on a study session represents a major commitment of
professional time and energy. Study section members review grant
applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on the
applications, and survey the status of research in their fields of
