The renovation of Fifth Third Arena will displace more than the Bearcats basketball teams. Construction is forcing the University Health Services
(UHS) clinic in the Richard E. Lindner Center to move to a temporary location beginning May 10.
The UHS Clinic, which cares for about 150 students every day, will move to a pair of modular buildings at 55-57 West Daniels St. The Lindner Center clinic will close at the end of the day on Thursday, May 5. The clinic will maintain a small presence at the Lindner Center during the move for urgent visits, however, testing and X-ray services will not be available there during the move.
The temporary move is because of demolition and construction on the concourse level outside of Fifth Third Arena, which is immediately above the UHS clinics on the third level of the Lindner Center, says Kim L. Miller, MD, executive director of UHS.
"We apologize to everyone who receives care at the Lindner clinic that we have to be in another location for the next eight months, but it’s just a short distance from the Lindner Center,” Miller says "While the Lindner clinic is closed we hope to make some small changes that will improve traffic flow, install new flooring in the laboratory and complete some additional cosmetic work.”
The modular units are located next to Daniels Hall and will provide room for all UHS clinic space that was in Lindner Center. The building at 57 W. Daniels St., which is known as Commons Edge North, will house clinic rooms and the laboratory while Commons Edge South at 55 W. Daniels St., will house X-ray, mental health and psychiatry services.
The UHS Pharmacy will remain in Lindner Center as will UHS administrative offices, Miller says.
The move is scheduled during the clinic’s lowest utilization time, Miller added, following graduation and prior to the start of summer session.
The UHS clinic in the Lindner Center is expected to be back in full operation by the beginning of Spring semester 2018.
Clinic telephone numbers will remain the same during the relocation: 513-556-2564 for appointments and general information and 513-244-9984 for urgent physician consultation after hours.
While the UHS clinic moves to the West Daniels Street location, students and faculty can receive care at the UHS clinic on the fourth floor of Holmes Hospital on the UC medical campus. Clinic hours there are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The telephone number for appointments and general information at the Holmes Hospital clinic is 513-584-4457.
UHS handled more than 24,000 patient visits during the 2015-16 fiscal year. UHS provides health services for all university students and work-related injury and employee health services.
