The Department of Family and Community Medicine honored fourth-year medical students who matched in family medicine residency and recognized faculty, preceptors and the community site of the year at the annual Division of Medical Student Education Awards Dinner Wednesday, May 10, at Kingsgate Marriott. The Hunnicutt Award was presented to med students, Christian Gausvik and Christopher Morriss, because they most embody the ideals of community engagement in Family Medicine, displaying altruism, service, and leadership in community settings.
Gausvik along with fellow med student, Anna Wiley, were presented the Stagaman Award, an honor given to the student who comes closest to embodying the ideals of Family Medicine as role modeled by the quintessential family physician, Dr. Harry Stagaman. The student must display empathy, patient-centered care, high academic performance, teamwork, leadership, and education.
The Faculty of the Year award was presented to Ron Reynolds, MD, with The Christ Hospital Physicians in Anderson, while the Community Preceptor of the Year award was presented to Melissa Schroer, MD, with The Christ Hospital Physicians in Delhi. The recipient of the Outstanding Community Preceptor Site of Year award went to UC Health Physicians at University Pointe.
