The University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy extends its congratulations to the class of 2017.
"This college is my home away from home and the people, including students and faculty, are my family,” says Hanna Burgin, who, along with 96 other UC students of pharmacy, received their PharmD degrees on April 29, 2017.
More than half of the PharmD class completed their undergraduate pre-pharmacy work at UC. The spring commencement ceremony also recognized four students who earned their PhDs and 23 who earned master’s degrees in pharmaceutical sciences; and for the first time two graduates also completed both a PharmD degree and a graduate certificate in drug development at the same time.
Career options are not lacking in the pharmacy field: 70 percent of the class will work in community independent and chain pharmacies; 18 percent in hospital pharmacies; 7 percent in long term care facilities; 3 percent in specialty pharmacies and 2 percent in industry; 29 PharmD graduates will be continuing their training in post graduate residencies, including Burgin, and 1 PharmD graduate is completing an industry fellowship.
"The capability of pharmacists to improve patient care is limitless,” says Burgin, now a PharmD and a Bearcat for life.
