"Back To School" Difficult For Teens Who Hate Their Bodies

Cincinnati--Many teenagers are unhappy with the way their bodies look, but sometimes this unhappiness can be a serious disorder. These teens may spend too much time looking at themselves in the mirror and asking everyone's opinion about how they look. They may even avoid school or a social situation because of exaggerated concerns about their appearance.

If you know a teenager that displays this behavior, this person may have a condition called Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The University of Cincinnati Department of Psychiatry is currently conducting a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of possible treatments for this serious condition. For more information, call (513) 558-3991 or 558-5512.
