Cincinnati--Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer
death in women, after lung cancer. Medical research has led to
significant progress against breast cancer--early detection, higher
survival rates and improved quality of life--but ongoing funding for
research is necessary to find a cure for this disease.
Barrett Cancer Center at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center
and Saks Fifth Avenue are partnering for the second-consecutive year in
the fight against breast cancer. As a kickoff to National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month in October, The Barrett Center and Saks Fifth Avenue
are holding a charity-driven shopping weekend on September 18-21 to
benefit breast cancer research at The Barrett Center. Saks Fifth Avenue
will donate 2 percent of Cincinnati sales over the four shopping days
as part of its Fashion Targets Breast Cancer national campaign. This
fundraising weekend of shopping takes place in all of Saks Fifth
Avenue's 63 stores, as well as in 50 OFF 5th outlet stores, saks.com
and Folio, the company's mail order catalog.
To kick off the event, The Barrett Cancer Center is hosting a luncheon on September 18 at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati at 11:30 a.m.
Guests for the program include Laura Pulfer, writer for the Cincinnati
Enquirer, Cecilia Fenoglio-Preiser, MD, director of The Barrett Cancer
Center and Ina Levinson, Saks Fifth Avenue, with Mary Mahoney, MD,
radiologist and Elizabeth Shaughnessy, MD, surgical oncologist, as the
guest speakers. Saks Fifth Avenue has planned a fun-filled afternoon of
shopping and special events throughout the store, including a champagne
and dessert reception at 1:30 p.m., and a private shopping party and
reception at 5 p.m.
The luncheon chair is Eileen Barrett and the
honorary chair is Helen D. Williams. The planning committee includes
