$5,000 Scholarship Winner Announced

Cincinnati--The Department of Environmental Health of the University of Cincinnati (UC) today announced that the recipient of the $5,000 Powell/Cohrssen Industrial Hygiene Scholarship for 2002 is Emma-Jane Fennell of Trotwood, Ohio. Fennell, who received her BS degree in geology from Michigan State University in May 1999, is currently a second-year student in the master of science in environmental and industrial hygiene program at UC.

The Powell/Cohrssen scholarship was established in 1998 by the late Charles H. Powell, the first ScD graduate of the program (1959), and his wife, Barbara Cohrssen Powell, also a graduate of the program, to benefit industrial hygiene students at UC. Many other alumni and friends have contributed to this scholarship fund.

The graduate program in industrial hygiene at UC prepares individuals with the skills, scientific knowledge and expertise to anticipate, identify, evaluate and control health hazards and causes of discomfort in the workplace and other environments. The $5,000 check was presented to Emma-Jane Fennell by C. Scott Clark, PhD, UC professor of environmental health at the Kettering Laboratories on July 25.
