UC's Student National Medical Association Wins Community Service Award
Cincinnati--The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine's Student
National Medical Association (SNMA) received a Community Service Award
at its National Conference for two local programs aimed at bringing
medical education to high school and elementary school students.
The local SNMA chapter was honored for its Youth Science Enrichment
Program (YSEP) and the Health Professions Recruitment Exposure Program
The programs began in 1994 as a way for the local chapter to give
something back to the community. H-PREP provides information for
Cincinnati high school students interested in a medical career. For
YSEP, local SNMA members visited second-grade students at Vine Street
Elementary throughout the 1997-98 school year, teaching children about
human organ systems.
The medical school chapter competed with 15 other chapters for the award.
