The Barrett Cancer Center at the UC Medical Center and Saks Fifth Avenue are teaming up for the third-consecutive year in the fight against breast cancer. In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Saks Fifth Avenue and The Barrett Cancer Center will host a charity shopping weekend called "Key to the Cure." Saks will donate two percent of all sales from Sept. 17-20, 2003 to UC Cancer Programs/The Barrett Cancer Center to support breast cancer research at UC. Last year's event raised $26,772.
To kick off the weekend, UC Cancer Programs/The Barrett Cancer Center will host the "Think Pink 2003" luncheon Sept. 17 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Pavilion Caprice Room. Three-time Emmy nominee and Golden Globe Award winning actress, singer and motivational speaker, Ann Jillian, will be the guest speaker at this year's luncheon. Registration for the luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon.
The 2002 luncheon raised $43,000. The focus of this event is to raise necessary funds to support breast cancer research at UC Cancer Programs/The Barrett Cancer Center through education and awareness. Rhonda Sheakley and Eileen Barrett are co-chairs for "Think Pink 2003."
"Four years ago I was treated for breast cancer at The Barrett Cancer Center," said Eileen Barrett. "My treatment was superb. I have volunteered for this fundraiser for four years as a way of saying thank you to the staff of The Barrett Center. Ultimately, research is where the answer lies and all hope of cures and longer lives rest with research."
Sponsorships for the event are now available. For more information about "Think Pink 2003," please contact Linda Karr at 558-3879.
