Tristate residents are encouraged to make their health a priority and participate in the free medical screenings, informational health talks and clinical facility tours at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Physicians group seventh annual Health and Wellness Fair.

The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at the University Pointe medical campus at 7700 University Court in West Chester.

Attendees will meet physicians and explore interactive displays designed to educate people about health risks and conditions. Visitors can also take advantage of free health screenings, including strength and nerve conduction studies, cosmetic skin analysis, vein evaluations, blood pressure and glucose checks.

A limited number of adult flu shots will be available for a fee and by appointment only. Appointments are given on a first-call, first-served basis and can be made by calling (513) 475-8000. Health professionals, people who work with young children and the elderly are encouraged to have flu vaccinations.

UC Heart and Vascular Center technicians will also demonstrate how a cardiac catheter is inserted to test for common heart conditions and show video examples to explain how an echocardiogram (EKG) is used to test problems with the heartís electrical activity.

Tours of the University Pointe Surgical Hospital and Precision Radiotherapy will also be available.

There will also be free 30-minute interactive educational sessions about some of the latest medical advances, including:

  • How to Wine & Dine Your Heart: The ABC's of Heart Health & the Foods We Love, presented by Madhumita Saha, MD
  • Non-Surgical Options for Your Achy Back, presented by Hammam Akbik, MD
  • Vascular Disease: What You Need to Know About Your Veins and Arteries, presented by Amy Reed, MD

Health education talk times are to be determined.
