CINCINNATI—Lori Mackey has been named senior associate dean for clinical programs at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and chief operating officer of UC Physicians, Inc.
Mackey had served as chief operating officer on an interim basis since July through a loaned initiative program from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where she was vice president for operations.
“Lori’s experience and leadership skills in health care administration will prove vital as we move ahead with significant changes and improvements at UC Physicians,” says David Stern, MD, vice president for health affairs at UC and dean of the College of Medicine.
Mackey will be responsible for day-to-day operations at UC Physicians and report to Thomas Boat, MD, executive associate dean and chief executive officer of UCP. She also is playing a key leadership role as the 15 clinical practice corporations that comprise UC Physicians merge into a single nonprofit tax-exempt organization in 2009.
“I’m very excited—this is a tremendous opportunity, both personally and professionally,” says Mackey. “Our goal will be to put together a state-of-the-art physician practice group that will draw patients from all over the region into our system.”
UC Physicians is the private-practice group for clinical faculty members at the College of Medicine. More than 550 physicians provide clinical services in 18 different specialties, including primary care, surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, oncology, urology, cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation and pain management.
While at Cincinnati Children’s, Mackey managed over 40 pediatric subspecialties and was responsible for the finance and operations for both clinical operations at the hospital and research efforts at Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation.
Mackey, a resident of Anderson Township, has lived in Ohio most of her life and graduated from Ohio University with a double major in finance and economics. She received a master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University.
