Academic Health Center Faculty Involved in Clifton Community and Home Tour Sunday

CINCINNATI—Being a part of the UC community does not end when you drive off campus, say Academic Health Center employees who live in the surrounding neighborhood of Clifton.

“Clifton is a place of unique architecture, history and business district,” says Linda Goldenhar, PhD, assistant dean in the department of family medicine. Goldenhar is also trustee with Clifton Town Meeting, a non-profit community organization that strives to maintain the neighborhood’s historic element and evoke a sense of community among its residents and the university.

The group sponsors outreach events such as a fire safety program – distributing outdoor florescent light bulbs to each and every Clifton resident – and a Streetscapes art exhibit to promote local talent.

Every three years on Mother’s Day the group sponsors the Clifton Home Tour – which takes place this Sunday May 10, 2009.

“It’s important that we all invest in the community in some way,” says Michael Willing, MD, with the department of emergency medicine.

Willing moved to Clifton in 2003 after completing his residency at UH, then spent a year rehabbing a 1800s Victorian, stick style, painted lady home.

Both Willing, who recently became a trustee as well, and Goldenhar allowed their homes to be showcased in the 2003 tour.
