Leesar Invited to Speak at TCT Meeting
Massoud Leesar, MD, of cardiovascular diseases, has been invited by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation to present at the 20th annual Scientific Symposium of Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT). Leesar will discuss several TCT topics, including intravascular ultrasound evaluation of the left main coronary artery and renal artery stenosis. The event will be held Oct.12–17 in Washington, DC. Cancer Center Pilot Grants Available
The UC Barrett Cancer Center at University Hospital is accepting applications for its spring 2008 Pilot Grants Program. Open to all cancer center researchers, the program will award four one-year grants totaling up to $40,000. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, March 31. Breast Cancer Pilot Grant Program
Grant applications are now being acceptedfor the Marlene Harris-Ride Cincinnati Breast Cancer Pilot Grant Program. Initiated in 2005, the program works to facilitate and increase breast cancer research and collaboration between basic scientific and clinical investigators, and encourage young investigators to enter the field of breast cancer research. Two one-year grants totaling up to $26,000 will be awarded. Applicants must submit a grant proposal describing clinical research studies in one of three broad areas: diagnosis and management of breast cancer, genetics of breast cancer or psychosocial aspects of breast cancer. The grants are open to all cancer center researchers. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, March 31. Wyan to Present at Women’s Leadership Event
Michele Wyan, executive staff assistant in the ophthalmology department, will discuss, “Getting a Degree While Working Full-Time” during UC’s 2008 Women’s Leadership Conference. The annual event offers women from all areas of UC the opportunity to network and share tips and strategies for becoming effective leaders. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Tangeman University Center. Registration is $90 for the full conference, $50 for a half-day session (morning or afternoon). Join Internal Medicine’s Mini-Marathon Team
The internal medicine department is organizing a team for the 31st annual Mercy Heart Mini-Marathon. All employees, including their family, friends and neighbors, are invited to participate. The event takes place on Sunday, March 30, and includes five races, all of which start and finish in downtown Cincinnati: 5K HeartRun, 15K Mini-Marathon, 2K Kids’ Mini-MaraFun and the 5K-10K HeartWalk.
