Bibler, Diers Win Teacher, Volunteerism Awards
Mark Bibler, MD, professor of medicine, and Tiffiny Diers, MD, assistant professor and associate program director in the department of internal medicine, received awards at the American College of Physicians Ohio Chapter's Scientific Training Meeting, held Oct. 8-9 in Columbus. Bibler was given the Evelyn Hess Master Teacher Award and Diers received the Volunteerism Award.


Bernstein Named Editor-in-Chief
Jonathan Bernstein, MD, professor of internal medicine, has been named the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Asthma. The journal covers asthma and related conditions, publishing reports on advances from molecular biology to government legislation to those involved in the research, clinical and educational aspects of asthma management.


Children's Named Top Pediatric Hospital
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center was named a 2009 top pediatric hospital in The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Recognition Program. Top pediatric hospitals received a quality score of 95 or better on The Leapfrog Hospital Survey, a national, public comparison of hospitals on issues including mortality rates for certain common procedures, infection rates, safety practices and measures of efficiency.


Health System Performance Talk Dec. 14
Health Management Associates senior consultant Greg Moody will speak on "Aiming Higher for Health System Performance," from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the fourth floor of the Stetson Building. As a companion to the Commonwealth Fund 2009 State Scorecard, Moody and his colleagues produced a report profiling seven states. Imaging Research Talk Dec. 18
The Center for Imaging Research presents, "The Network in the Brain: Network identification and connectivity modeling in the pediatric brain (Or: Blob-ology is like, SO, last millennium)" presented by Vincent Schmithorst, PhD, from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in Medical Sciences Building Room 3051. Schmithorst is a research assistant professor in the Imaging Research Center-Pediatric Neuroimaging Research Consortium at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. A light lunch will be served.

Holiday Blood Drive Dec. 22
Become a blood donor at the University of Cincinnati Physicians Holiday Blood Drive for Hoxworth Blood Center on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Employee blood donations can be made at the outpatient locations in Clifton (Medical Arts Building), West Chester (Medical Office Building) as well as Victory Parkway. All donors will receive a Hoxworth Blood Center long-sleeved T-shirt. Donors also will be entered into a drawing to win UC Health T-shirts and gift certificates to local businesses.
