Call for Nominations: Humanism in Medicine Award
Faculty nominations are now being accepted for the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. The annual award recognizes the value of humanism in the delivery of care to patients and their families. Nominations are due no later than Friday, March 5. Rood Selected for AGA Registry Board
Richard Rood, MD, associate professor of medicine and medical director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program, has been selected to serve a two-year term as an ex-officio member of the American Gastroenterological Association’s Digestive Health Outcomes Registry Executive Management Board. Rood was selected based on his expert work with the association’s IBD task force.

Help UC Health Raise Funds for Heart Health
There's still time to help the UC Health effort in the 2010 Walmart Mini Marathon and Heart Walk, scheduled for Sunday, March 28, in downtown Cincinnati. UC Health University Hospital and University of Cincinnati Physicians are among the sponsors of the annual event, with numerous teams to join as a participant or donor. The UC Health goal is to raise $100,000. If you are unable to participate on the day of the race, you can still help by making a donation.

Boat to Serve as Fine Arts Fund Co-Chair
Thomas Boat, MD, associate dean of the College of Medicine and chief executive officer of University of Cincinnati Physicians, has been named one of three co-chairs for UC’s 2010 Fine Arts Fund community campaign. Other chairs include Mary Stagaman, associate vice president of external affairs, and Robert Probst, dean of the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. The Fine Arts Fund supports nearly 100 large and small arts organizations throughout the Tristate.

The College of Medicine’s student board of the American Medical Association will hold a day of service on Saturday, April 24. This is a great opportunity for students to give back to the UC community, including a number of local charities. The planning team is compiling a list of charities to serve and faculty interested in participating as site leaders.   Gold Humanism Honor Society Inductions
Eleven fourth-year medical students were selected for induction into the Cincinnati chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). The students are: Jared Bentley, Scott Carlson, Meghan Crute, Michael Donaworth, Nathan Evanson, Andrea Klass, Mallory McClester, Maria Reid, Helen Smith, Johanna Voutyras and Michael Wigton. They will be inducted during a ceremony and recognition dinner to be held Wednesday, March 10.   UC Faculty: Submit Your 2009 Published Work
UC Libraries will once again recognize the publishing and creative accomplishments of UC faculty at the annual "Authors, Editors & Composers" to be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. The event will pay tribute to the 2009 scholarly and creative works of faculty with a reception, presentation of selected works, a printed bibliography and an exhibit.

  Puga to Discuss Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Functions
Alvaro Puga, PhD, of environmental health, will present the department of molecular genetics, biochemistry and microbiology seminar at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Medical Sciences Building Room 2351.   Biomedical Research Poster Presentation Feb. 26
The Biomedical Engineering Society will host the inaugural Biomedical Research Poster Presentation on Friday, Feb. 26, at Tangeman University Center 401. The day will be divided into two sessions: the first from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second from 1 to 4 p.m. The event, open to the public, will showcase student research and provide a networking opportunity with representatives from biomedical companies.   Quality Improvement Forum March 2
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement will hold an on-demand broadcast, "21st Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care,” from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, in the Lucas board room (Medical Sciences Building Room E005H).   Air Care & Mobile Care Conference March 9
UC Health University Hospital Air Care & Mobile Care will hosts its ninth annual one-day conference for emergency medical professionals from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Cincinnati-Eastgate. The conference will feature presentations on the latest research and development in emergency care for trauma, myocardial infarction and stroke, as well as information about EMS helicopter safety and psychological first aid for children and adolescents.
