'Proudly Pennies' Makes a Stop at Winkle College of Pharmacy

Published April 2010

UC President Gregory Williams, PhD (middle), visited with students, including (from left to right) Chris Forg, Ganesh Mugundu, Nimita Kapadia and Ganesh Palanisamy, during the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy’s Proudly Pennies event Feb. 26.

Proudly Pennies is a student-led initiative that seeks to collect 1 billion pennies, the equivalent of $10 million, which will go toward Proudly Cincinnati, UC’s $1 billion fundraising campaign.

"Every student here benefits from funding if they need it, and we have easy access to many collaborations within and beyond the college,” says Kapadia, a third-year PhD candidate.

Kapadia says that meeting Williams was an "amazing” experience, since she had already read his memoir, "Life on the Color Line: The True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black," and found him to be "an inspiration” in person as well.
