Bearcat Bike Share: How It Works
Published May 2010
The Bearcat Bike Share program is up and rolling on the medical campus.
Officially launched on Earth Day 2010, April 22, Bearcat Bike Share is the first university bike share program in the region. The student-led initiative provides free bicycles to anyone with a valid UC ID. Riders can check out the bikes to use on or off campus.
So, how do you check out a bike on the medical campus?
Head to University Hall on Goodman Drive, where four bikes (locked to a rack in the parking garage) are available for checkout. Fill out the checkout sheet and receive a numbered key at Planning, Design and Construction, Suite 640, or Human Resources, Suite 340. Then go down to Level P0, unlock the bike and pedal off.
Shawn Tubb, UC sustainability coordinator, says plans are in the works to have bikes available for checkout at the Fitness Center at CARE/Crawley later this year.
On the main campus, bikes are available at the Campus Recreation Center and University Pavilion.
While the program is free, it does cost money to set up and run. Click here for details on how to donate.
