College of Medicine 2nd in Spring Penny Wars
Published June 2010
The College of Medicine took second place in the spring Penny Wars, part of the Proudly Pennies initiative in support of UC’s $1 billion Proudly Cincinnati fundraising campaign.
Clermont College led the Penny Wars, collecting $1,215.58 (or 121,558 pennies) during the 10-day competition that ended May 25. The College of Medicine was second with $1,006.61 (100,661 pennies), and the College of Business was third with $250.10 (25,010 pennies).
More than $58,000 was raised in the spring quarter through Proudly Pennies, with the help of Penny Wars and the Shiny Penny car wash fundraiser held May 23. Since Proudly Pennies was launched in January 2010, students have raised more than $81,000.
The winning Penny Wars total was made possible by Clermont College Dean Mick McLaughlin and Dean Emeritus Jim McDonough, who made significant matches to the college’s collections. Other matching donors included Cora Ogle, supporting the College of Medicine, and Dean Larry Johnson, supporting the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services.
Online donations of $10 or more to Proudly Pennies count toward the Faculty/Staff Campaign. Donors can also split their designations between Proudly Pennies and other funding priorities.
