Hoxworth Issues 'Summer Lifesaver Challenge'
Published July 2010
Local firefighters, police officers and EMTs encouraged the public to become heroes as UC’s Hoxworth Blood Center kicked off its Summer Lifesaver Challenge.
In an event held in the Hoxworth atrium on the UC medical campus, these public figures urged colleagues and the community to donate blood now through Sept. 11 as a way to keep blood supplies stocked for use in hospitals.
During the summer months, blood supplies tend to be lower due to an increase of vacations (smaller donor pool) and an increased use in supplies at hospitals due to injury during summertime activities.
"The Summer Lifesaver Challenge challenges our staff and supporters to give blood, while honoring our professions,” explained City of Cincinnati Police Chief Thomas Streicher at the event.
"I’m asking you—challenging you—to give blood at a Hoxworth Neighborhood Donor Center or blood drive.”
Local law enforcement departments, fire departments and EMT units are encouraged to arrange for blood drives at their locations during the summer months.
Individuals interested in scheduling a blood drive for their organization should contact Hoxworth Blood Center at (513) 558-1200. To schedule a personal donation, call (513) 451-0910 or visit www.hoxworth.org.
