Lab Named in Honor of Eye Doctor

In late May, the department of ophthalmology announced the establishment of the Arden H. Wander, MD, Ophthalmic Surgical Skills Laboratory, adjacent to the UC Health University Hospital Ophthalmology Clinic in the Hoxworth Building.
Martin and Marilyn Wade provided the $500,000 to name the lab in honor of Wander, a professor of clinical ophthalmology and director of the corneal and external disease service at UC.
Wander has been a member of the UC faculty since 1973 and is known for his expertise in corneal eye disease.
The lab will focus on strengthening the ophthalmology residency program and will feature an ophthalmic surgical simulator—similar to that used by pilots—to help train residents to use instruments correctly and effectively and perform various procedures in a lab setting.
"Arden Wander has established himself as a tremendous clinician and a wonderful teacher,” says James Augsburger, MD, chair of the department of ophthalmology,
"No one embodies the vision of this program more than Dr. Wander.”
