Gregory Williams was formally installed as UCís 27th president on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, and announced a new strategic plan titled "UC2019►: Accelerating Our Transformation.Ē
The plan takes its name from UCís upcoming bicentennial year and is based on two major outcomes, according to Williams:
∑ Measuring success against the elite set of peers represented by the Association of American Universities and the Center for Measuring University Performanceís Top American Research Universities.
∑ Prioritizing and targeting UCís resources by investing in those areas at which the university excels.
The UC2019► plan moves beyond the UC|21 plan set in 2004 and takes its name from the universityís bicentennial coming up in 2019. It includes an emphasis on learning, discovery, collaboration, community, diversity, sustainability, economy, global engagement and health care.
Williams began his tenure at UC on Nov. 1, 2009, after eight years as president of the City College of New York, the flagship college of the City University of New York. For cost-savings and efficiencies, he chose to combine his investiture with this yearís new student convocation at Fifth Third Arena.
