Provost Makes First Formal Visit to Academic Health Center Campus

By Angela Koenig
Published November 2010

Although he has visited the UC Academic Health Center several times as a lecturer and visitor, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Santa Jeremy Ono’s first formal visit in his new role made an impression.

"My visit confirmed what I have known for a long time—that UC has a world class biomedical community,” he says.

On his recent visit, Ono toured the CARE/Crawley Building and was introduced to faculty and students from all four health colleges. Ono, who joined UC in September 2010, came from Emory University, where he was senior vice provost for undergraduate education and academic affairs.

His academic appointment at UC is professor of pediatrics and biology.

"What exactly is a provost?”
It’s the chief academic officer at a university. At UC, the provost is responsible for the supervision and oversight of curricular, instructional and research affairs for both the east and west campuses. The provost reports directly to the president and all deans at the university report to him.
