Medical Help for Honduras

Published March 2006

Students and faculty from the UC colleges of nursing and medicine spent eight days in January and February providing cervical screenings, nutritional assessments and other medical care to residents of Santa Lucia, a remote area of Honduras. Their efforts were organized by Shoulder to Shoulder, an organization started by Jeff Heck, MD, a former professor in UC's family medicine department.

Edith Harte, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics-gynecology, says that nearly 150 women were screened for cervical cancer, the most common womenÕs cancer in Honduras.
