Public Relations Team Expands

The Academic Health Center's Public
Relations and Communications department has bolstered its staff with
the addition of three public information officers, furthering the
department's strategy of maximizing internal communications and media
The three new staff members, Jill Hafner, Amanda Harper and Jamie Davis, bring diverse public relations experience to the team.
"There's an extraordinary amount of
research and programmatic activity taking place around our campus,"
says Richard Puff, Academic Health Center director of public relations
and communications. "Jill, Amanda and Jamie will play a vital role in
communicating these advances to our faculty and staff and the
community. I'm very excited to have been able to add such exceptional
people to our staff."
Jill Hafner will focus on internal communications, which includes serving as the new editor of both The Dean's List and Findings.
She succeeds Dama Kimmon, who edited both
for the past two and a half years. Kimmon will now be responsible for
media relations for the colleges of medicine and allied health, the
Genome Research Institute, the Institute for the Study of Health,
general internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation,
psychiatry, pulmonary and critical-care medicine and the research
office. She will continue to serve as editor of E-Health News Daily,
the Academic Health Center's e-mail news update.
In addition, Hafner will work to
strengthen the Academic Health Center's Web communication and marketing
presence while publicizing various areas, including NetWellness, the
consumer health-education Web site that UC produces in collaboration
with Ohio State and Case Western Reserve universities, and the
development and alumni affairs office.
A graduate of Ohio University with
degrees in both journalism and business administration, Hafner joins us
from Episcopal Retirement Homes, where she had served as a public
relations specialist since 2002. She also has been a health/medicine
account manager at Hobsons, an international student recruitment
company, and has worked in athletic communications at both UC and
Southern Illinois University. Hafner can be reached at(513) 558-4639 or

Amanda Harper will be responsible for publicizing the UC Cancer
Center, biomedical engineering, cardiovascular/thoracic surgery,
environmental health, hematology/oncology, nuclear medicine, plastic
surgery, radiation oncology, radiation safety, radiology, surgery,
transplant surgery and urology. A graduate of Ohio University with a
degree in journalism, Harper was previously the communications manager
at the Work Resource Center, where she had worked since 2003. She has
also worked as an account executive at Dan Pinger Public Relations.

Jamie Davis will manage publicity for the colleges of nursing
and pharmacy; the bone and diabetes centers; anesthesiology; emergency
medicine; endocrinology, metabolism and nutrition; immunology, allergy
and rheumatology; orthopedics and sports medicine; otolaryngology and
women's health. A graduate of the College of Mount St. Joseph with a
degree in communications, Davis joins us from United Way of Greater
Cincinnati, where she had served as a senior marketing associate since
2000. She has also worked at two Cincinnati public relations agencies,
Wordsworth Communications and the Gibbons Group, Inc. Davis can be
