Unsung Hero Award

Published May 2003

Cancer Family Care has selected Andrew Lowy, MD, associate professor of surgery and co-director for The University Hospital Barrett Cancer Center, and Debbie Soldano, RN, nurse manager for the UC division of surgical oncology and clinical nurse specialist for Dr. Lowy's practice, to receive the Joslin Haggart Yeiser Unsung Hero Award in the category of oncology professionals.

"We were nominated as a team rather than as individuals," said Debbie Soldano, "and we are very honored to share this award." Cancer Family Care gives the award to healthcare professionals who go above and beyond the call of duty in providing excellent care to their cancer patients. Cecilia Fenoglio-Preiser, MD, MacKenzie Professor and director of UC's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, was also nominated for the award and will receive a Hero pin. Dr. Fenoglio-Preiser is also the executive director of the UC Cancer Programs.
