Gold and Silver Apple Awards
Published July 2003
The first-year medical students from the UC College of Medicine
selected D.J. Lowie, Jr., PhD, assistant professor, Department of Cell
Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy to receive the Gold Apple Award given
for excellence in teaching. Established in 1968 by the Pi Kappa Epsilon
Fraternity, the Gold Apple Awards help to foster better student faculty
relations and symbolize the ongoing commitment of the College of
Medicine and its faculty to excellence in education. Students select
Gold Apple and Silver Apple winners to honor professors who have had
the most profound effect on their futures in medicine and in life.
Students chose two other faculty from the Department of Cell Biology,
Neurobiology and Anatomy, Bruce Giffin, PhD, field service assistant
professor, and Wan Lim, PhD, adjunct associate professor, to receive
Silver Apple Awards.
