University Research Council Awards

College of Nursing faculty recently received University
Research Council (URC) Awards. URC Awards are offered through the
Office of Research and Sponsored Programs through the Faculty Research
Support Program. In order to qualify for an award, research proposals
are submitted, evaluated and ranked. The principal investigators for
proposed research projects must be a full-time member of UC's faculty.
Awards are limited to $5,000.
Winners from the College of Nursing were:
- Terry Beery, PhD
Dr. Beery will use family history to predict clinically signifcant cardiac arrhythmias. She was funded for $5,000.
- Bonnie Brehm, RD, PhD
Dr. Brehm will look at the effects of diets with varying macronutrient content on hunger and satiety. She was awarded $5,000.
- Deb Dole and Susan Elek, PhD, RN
Dr. Elek and Dole will research low-income minority and majority
pregnant women's perceptions of benefits of and barriers to moderate
intensity physical activity during pregnancy. They were funded for
- Christine Savage, PhD, RN
Dr. Savage will study African-American infant mortality health disparities. She received $4,807.
- Janet Wray, PhD, RN
Dr. Wray will look at educational outcomes of an adolescent school-base
substance-abuse intervention. She was funded for $5,000.
