Kitzmiller Named New Chief of Plastic Surgery

Published December 2003

W. John Kitzmiller, MD, was named chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the UC Department of Surgery. He is only the second surgeon to be named chief of this division, replacing Henry Neale. Dr. Neale will turn his focus to clinical duties and teaching. He maintains an active practice in plastic surgery at The University Hospital.

"UC division of plastic surgery has a strong tradition," said Jeffrey Matthews, MD, chairman of the Department of Surgery. "I am grateful to Dr. Neale for establishing and growing this division to be one of the most recognized in the country. We are very pleased that John Kitzmiller will continue this tradition of excellence and develop the next generation of plastic surgeons."

Dr. Kitzmiller earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and his MD from Duke University. He completed the general and plastic surgery residency programs at UC, as well as fellowship training in cosmetic surgery in Miami, Fla. and reconstructive microsurgery in San Francisco, Calif. Dr. Kitzmiller returned to UC to become a member of UC Surgeons in 1991. He has received research grants, and has published and lectured both regionally and nationally in the areas of both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
