Kagan Named Shriners Chief of Staff

Richard J. Kagan, MD, has been appointed chief of staff of the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Nationally recognized for his work in burn care, Dr. Kagan has authored 150 abstracts and articles and written over a dozen book chapters on burns, burn research, tissue banking and surgical therapies.

Dr. Kagan joined Shriners in 1988 as a burn surgeon. He was appointed assistant chief of staff in 2000 and has been acting chief of staff since February 2004. In addition to his duties at Shriners, Dr. Kagan is director of University Hospital's Burn Special Care Unit and professor of surgery at UC College of Medicine. He also serves as medical director of U.S. Tissue and Cell, the local skin and tissue bank. Dr. Kagan received his doctorate from St. Louis University and completed his postgraduate work at the University of Illinois.
